About Native

Native was one of the pioneers of the natural deodorant movement, founded in San Francisco in 2015 by Moiz Ali. The brand was so successful it was acquired by Procter & Gamble in 2017, which has helped them scale while (largely) maintaining their commitment to clean ingredients.

Simple Ingredients, Effective Results

Native’s philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: use ingredients people can understand. When you read a Native label, you’ll see things like coconut oil, shea butter, and baking soda - not chemical compounds that require a science degree to decode.

The Formula

The classic Native formula contains:

  • Coconut oil as a base and for antibacterial properties
  • Shea butter for smooth application and skin nourishment
  • Tapioca starch to absorb moisture
  • Baking soda to neutralize odour

For those sensitive to baking soda (which can cause irritation for some), Native offers a dedicated Sensitive line using magnesium hydroxide instead.

Scent Selection

One area where Native truly excels is scent variety. From classic Coconut & Vanilla to more adventurous options like Cucumber & Mint or seasonal limited editions, there’s something for everyone. They frequently collaborate on special scents that create genuine excitement among fans.

Our Experience

Native is a solid performer that represents excellent value. It goes on smooth, dries quickly, and provides reliable all-day odour protection for most people. The stick format will feel familiar to anyone used to conventional deodorants.

The plastic-free paperboard packaging is a great step forward, though it does have a slightly less premium feel than metal alternatives. The product inside is identical, though.

The P&G Question

Some eco-conscious consumers are concerned about Native being owned by Procter & Gamble. It’s a valid consideration. The formula and quality have remained consistent, and being part of a larger company has improved availability and affordability. Make your own informed choice about what aligns with your values.

Value Proposition

Native offers arguably the best value in the natural deodorant space. You get effective, clean-ingredient deodorant at prices that won’t break the bank, with genuinely plastic-free packaging options available.
